I read on the web this: "In old English, the word treow means both tree and truth. Etymologically, truth and tree grow out of the same root." Do we fear truth? There are many examples of scary tales about evil trees and forests in the human imaginary – that is naturally not true. Why? Actually, we humans represent the true menace for trees. We destroy the Amazons at a scary pace, and the Brazil president increased the destruction rate. With trees, we make paper; also the colored paper that we call money which substitutes the true value of living beings: animals, trees (yes, they are utterly alive and conscious), and even human beings.
In some Native Civilizations, Trees are the most elevated form of consciousness, indeed. They connect Earth and Sky, and almost every ancient myth is hinged on a Mother-Tree, pillar of the Worlds. Tolkien describes the Ants as Tree-beings. Ants: ant-cestors, our true vital roots. An American myth tells of the Spirits descending from the Pleiads through the Trees and their roots into the Earth to carry dreams and Life for us, humans.
We breathe because of the trees.
No Trees, no Truth, no Life.
