Do we know silence? Do we remember silence? It's no more, in any place, around us. We live constantly immersed in noise. Not sounds, noise. I was traveling on a bus in a big European city some time ago. At least four people listened to music or looked at loud videos through their smartphones, not caring about others or even not perceiving the cacophony filling the entire space. Somebody was upset, some people were trying not to get caught in that, and nobody was saying anything. We know in Science now that frequencies can influence and reprogram our DNA. We now know how all that noise deeply affects our being.
Today I was in an underground shrine of Mary, with a source, on an island in the Mediterranean. I appreciated the silence, just underlined by the little chant of the water coming out from a tiny hole in a rock. A group of people came in to pray respectfully. When they finished, they stood there. But now chatting and not caring about us, those still meditating.
Is silence so scary? Is it seeking for our deeper Self so terrible? How could it be different in our lives, appreciating silence? We should be much more mindful and respect more ourselves and others. We should seek more for what at the end is meaningful in Life: that meeting with Universe and our Self – through silence.
